Founded in 1994 by a group of teachers and parents, the Amelia Park Museum contains a range of exhibits and hands-on activities for children to learn through the arts, history, science, and the region's rich environmental and cultural diversity. Exhibition themes include a STEM Center, a Dinosaur Dig, Outer Space, a Construction Zone, a Wellness Center, Amelia's Cafe, a Grocery Store, as well as a toddler area and library. The front doors of the Museum are equipped with push-button openers to accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Sensory bags, equipped with noise-cancelling headphones, sunglasses, a facility map, and stim toys are available to borrow at the front desk. You may request one free of charge at any time during your visit. Hours may vary depending on the season—please check the website for details.

The Children's Museum at Holyoke is located at Holyoke Heritage State Park in a renovated storage building, which was once part of the Skinner Silk Mills. Hands-on exhibits for children promote curiosity and foster familiarity with the arts, the sciences, and the world around them. Among others, exhibits include a Shop & Scan Grocery Store, the World of Motion Room?, Tot Lot, Art Studio, Curvy Climber, Dinosaur Dig, a Puppet Theater, Animation Station, a Kitchen and Diner area, the Light Bright Wall, a Public Safety Complex, a Mail Room, and a Rooftop Garden. There is a gift shop on the premises.

Located in East Windsor, CT, the Connecticut Trolley Museum has over 70 pieces of rail equipment dating back to 1869. The collection includes passenger and freight trolley cars, interurban cars, elevated railway cars, passenger and freight railroad cars, service cars, locomotives, and other equipment. Admission includes a 3-mile round-trip ride through the countryside with a trolley operator in period uniform. For younger visitors there are craft tables, Legos, photo cutouts, a play trolley, dress-up Trolley Operator and Fire Fighter costumes, and a real, full-sized caboose for exploring. Also on the site are the Connecticut Fire Museum and the Connecticut Motor Coach Museum—please check the website for their schedules. There is a gift shop on the premises.

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, located in Amherst, MA, is the first sizable institution dedicated to picture books and picture book illustrations from around the world. Its collection encompasses more than 11,000 objects—7,300 of which are illustrations—including art by Eric Carle, Maurice Sendak, and Leo Lionni. On the 40,000 sq. ft. premises are three art galleries, an art studio, a theater, picture book and scholarly libraries, and a gift shop.

Hancock Shaker Village is a living history museum which celebrates the history and legacy of the Shakers, a religious group that lived communally and promoted values of equality and pacificism. This site, on the National Register of Historic Places, was active until 1960. The grounds consist of 20 historic buildings and a working farm and garden, surrounded by 750 acres of pasture, woods and hiking trails. Of particular interest are the Round Stone Barn (1826), the Brick Building that served as a dormitory (1830), and the Museum which houses permanent and changing exhibitions. Staff demonstrate traditional Shaker trade crafts on a rotating schedule in various locations. There is a café and gift shop on the premises. The Village is open seasonally, so please check the website for up-to-date details.

Passes may be picked up at the Chicopee Public Library Reference Desk (lower level) the day before the reservation date anytime after 2pm or the day of the reservation. The pass must be returned by 12pm the following day. Please check library hours as passes can only be picked up during open hours.

Founded in 1929, this maritime museum—“The Museum of America and the Sea”—occupies 9 acres on the Mystic River in Mystic, CT and includes a recreated New England coastal village, a working shipyard, formal exhibit halls, and state-of-the-art artifact storage facilities. The Museum is home to more than 500 historic watercraft, including four National Historic Landmark vessels, most notably the 1841 whaleship Charles W. Morgan, America's oldest commercial ship still in existence. Occasional demonstrations and performances—including costumed role payers strolling the grounds—bring to life different aspects of maritime life. A gallery and series of shops are on the premises.

The Riverside Reptiles Education Center is a zoo dedicated to reptiles and amphibians. Its collection contains 70 species of indigenous and exotic animals, including snakes, lizards, alligators, turtles, and other creatures from around the world, with some opportunities for interaction. In addition to its 13,000 sq. ft. indoor facility, there is a 4,000 sq. ft. outdoor turtle and tortoise habitat called “Turtle Haven,” which is seasonally open. Located on four acres in a 735-acre woodland park in Springfield, MA, the Zoo is home to over 225 exotic and native animals. These include mammals, primates, birds, reptiles, invertebrates, and barnyard animals. The Zoo, which first opened 1894 and was once owned by Dr. Suess' father, works with wildlife rehabilitators to provide homes to wildlife considered non-releasable for various reasons. A wheelchair is available for a $10 refundable deposit.
